Why deacidify

Many diseases are linked by naturopaths to an overly acidic body due to excess acidifying foods.

If food is acidifying, that in itself is not such a big problem. It only becomes a real problem when the acid that is released/created (to convert this food into useful substances for our body) starts to accumulate. If the acid is not eliminated quickly enough, the waste bump of acid will grow.
And that is dangerous.

What does acidifying food do? Ok, so too much acidifying food is not good. But why? When too much acidic food enters the body, the body has to neutralize these acids.
The body does this by binding minerals to the acids. If you eat too much acidic food, you lose important minerals.

Minerals needed for your body to function properly. What foods are acidifying? In particular, meat products and most dairy products are acidifying; they cause an acid reaction in your body when these foods are converted. But some grain and flour products are also acidifying.

So from the list of acidifying foods below, you should not ingest too much:

  • Coffee, black tea
  • All products containing refined sugar (products with added sugar: candy, cookies, etc.)
  • All meat and fish products
  • All butter products
  • All other dairy products (except milk itself) Oats, rice, barley(emmeal), millet,
  • Most nuts (especially peanuts and walnuts) Brussels sprouts and pickles
  • Alcohol, tobacco and chemical drugs also cause an acid reaction in the body.

Also, if you don't chew your food properly, an acidifying reaction can occur in your body. So don't eat too fast, chew well and let the saliva do its job.

What foods are deacidifying? To deacidify acidifying foods, you need to make sure you get enough base-forming foods.

List of deacidifying foods:

  • Almost all vegetables and legumes (especially cucumber, gray peas, radish, pointed cabbage, tomatoes, spinach and corn salad)
  • Almost any fruit (especially apricots, lemon, grapefruit, orange and dried figs)
  • Corn Products
  • Other: raisins, soybeans, sprouts
